Teacher's Aide

Prerequisite: Instructor Approval Prior to Scheduling. Obtain a Form from the Teacher / Professional With Whom You’d Like to Work. Teachers are limited to two aides per 1 Credit/1 Semester.
Prerequisite: Student Must Have a ‘C’ Average or better in All Subject Areas to Participate and Must Not Have Excessive Discipline or Attendance Referrals on Record.
Students will provide assistance to teachers, librarians, cafeteria workers and the office in various duties. This course exposes the students to mentoring situations, office duties, and responsibility.

This course is designed to prepare students for career options in education. This course will equip students for entry-level employment and continuing education in careers that require high levels of interaction with children. Content interns will collaborate with the teacher about goals and objectives for lesson plans, assist in the instruction of those lessons and mentor students who struggle with understanding the content being taught. Additionally, students will receive Instruction on different learning styles, classroom management and the learning environment and gain the ability to experience the teaching profession before university study..
 
Leadership

Schedule: This course is scheduled for zero hour (6:45 - 7:40 A.M.)
Over the course of the semester students will participate in various individual and team activities in conjunction with introductory weight training activity.
 
Youth Volunteers in Action (Y.V.A.)

1 Semester
Prerequisite: Counselor Approval and Documentation
This credit involves doing volunteer work on special events and for members of the community. Students who document 70 or more hours of service per year may earn a YVA credit. YVA will be scheduled as 8th period and is outside of the regularly scheduled day.
 
Work Study
Course Code: 9980
1 Credit
1 Semester
Prerequisite: Instructor Approval and Requires a Paid Position in the Community.
Students who document 80 or more hours of work experience during one semester may earn 1 (one) credit. Work Study will be scheduled outside of the regularly scheduled school day. Students enroll for this course who do not provide documentation of work will receive an F.
 
Peer Mentor

1 Semester
Prerequisite: Instructor Approval and Requires a Paid Position in the Community.

This course is designed to teach high school students sufficient knowledge and skills to enable them to serve as peer tutors for the special education population.  Students will be given an overview of the history of special education and special educaiton programs. They will acquire the skills and knowledge necessary to assist students with special needs in the areas of academics, socialization and physical education. All peer tutors will actively participate in a variety of tasks that are designed to enhance the skills and indepenednence of their partners with special needs. Working with the special needs population can be rewarding put challenging.
